Is ChatGPT down? Thousands report issues

Thousands were reporting issues early Tuesday morning with a popular tech site. 

Is ChatGPT down? 

What we know:

According to downdetector.com, reports of user outages began around 5 a.m. ET Tuesday, growing steadily throughout the morning. 

As of 8:30 a.m., more than 1,000 people were still reporting problems. 

A quick test with a prompt didn't yield results around 9 a.m.

What they're saying:

OpenAI posted on social media later Tuesday morning that it was aware of heightened error rates and lags in response times across its platforms. 

"Our engineers have identified the root cause and are working as fast as possible to fix the issue," the tweet said

OpenAI didn’t elaborate on what caused the outage.
